Level 1
Complete beginner level, able to be introduced to kicking across pool with aids and an introduction to putting their face in the water with eyes open.
Level 2
Able to travel 5 metres on their front and back without the use of arm bands, a float or a woggle.
Level 3
Able to travel 10 Metres on their front and able to completely submerge for 5 seconds, swimmers by now be demonstrating basic stroke technique.
Level 4
Swimmers must be able to travel 10 metres on their back, as well as able to pick up an object from the pool bottom (minimum depth 0.9 metres). They must also hold a tucked float position for 10 seconds.
Level 5
Able to tread water for 10 seconds in the water of at least shoulder depth. Swimmers must be able to swim 10 metres without a float on their front and back.
Level 6
Swimmers must demonstrate surface diving (head first and feet first) as well as the ability to swim underwater for at least 5 metres. The three main strokes (Frontcrawl, Breastroke and Backcrawl) must be swum over 10 metres showing basic technique and regular breathing.
Level 7
The three main strokes must be demonstrated over the 25 metres using the full stroke and showing basic technique. Swimmers must also show how to somersault, swim underwater and straddle jump.
Level 8
Swimmers must swim 25 metres on either Frontcrawl or Backstroke as well as 25 metres on either Breastroke or Butterfly both with efficient rather than basic technique. Swimmers must also be able to swim 50 metres with basic technique and 10 metres Butterfly. They must also be able to back somersault and tread water for at least 30 seconds.
